Sarah Young is Head of Operations – Delivery, AQA. She is a Senior Manager with 24 years’ experience in education and assessment, including the university sector. Sarah is accountable for the safe and accurate delivery of over seven million student marks which contribute to their GCE and GCSE qualifications each summer. In addition, she leads a team who are responsible for the delivery of post – results (review of marking where a school may have doubts about its quality).
In her current organisation, Sarah is the expert in e-marking, developing her knowledge and experience over the past 10 years. She was the lead in the team who introduced and embedded e-marking, developing new processes, and working with key stakeholders to gain their buy-in and engagement. She also manages the strategic relationship with third party suppliers, ensuring they support the organisation by delivering the agreed service levels, and by continuously improving.
Other roles Sarah has held are Senior Research Associate, where she developed a real interest in educational research, and in particular assessment design and marking quality. Prior to Sarah's recent appointment, she led a team whose work was transitioned to another office, managing on the one hand, a group of colleagues whose roles were being made redundant, at the same time as introducing the work to a new team.
The key strengths Sarah brings to the NEBDN Board are her educational experience, her clear focus on people and her expertise in the management of suppliers. She currently acts as vice-chair.
