Gill Jones BDS, MCDH, DDPH.RCS (Eng)
Gill started her dental career in the secondary care hospital environment and General Dental Practice and then focused on special care dentistry before further study and changing focus to Dental Public Health as a Director of Dental Public Health in South Wales. Here she worked to improve oral health and commissioning of NHS dental services. During this time she worked with the Dental Postgraduate Deanery in Wales, developing Continuing Professional Development opportunities for dental nurses, hygienists, therapists and technicians.
With this background and having worked in clinical and academic dentistry with the dental team for 27 years, she then moved to manage the Training and Education Centre for Dental Care Professionals in Cardiff, before transferring to Plymouth in 2007 to help set up the first new dental school in the UK for 40 years. An experienced educator, academic and examiner, in her role as Director of Undergraduate Dental Studies, Gill helped deliver the four year graduate entry BDS course. She then led the Peninsula curriculum team to develop and introduce a new five year BDS programme and the innovative BSc in Dental Therapy and Hygiene course.
Recently retired, Gill became a trustee with NEBDN in 2017 and is looking forward to the opportunity to help shape the future of Dental Nurse training, education and assessment. She offers added value with her experience of evaluation and quality assurance.
